BBB of New Hampshire is warning local consumers about a call coming from New Canaan, Connecticut claiming to be the BBB.
Two consumers recently received a call from 203-652-4022. In both cases the caller identified herself as Betty with the BBB, but caller ID listed the call as coming from “Debt Free.” While there are several business listings across the country for companies named Debt Free, BBB is still working to tie this number to a legitimate business in Connecticut.
One consumer tells BBB that “Betty” offered to drastically lower her mortgage rates and in the other call she promised to cut credit card debt by at least 50 percent. BBB staff called the number above multiple times only to get a recording that instructs callers to press one in order to be removed from the company’s call list.
BBB reminds consumers never to provide personal or financial information to callers you don’t know. If you receive this or a similar call, get as much information as you can from the caller, don’t divulge any personal information and report it to your BBB by calling 603-224-1991 or emailing
