Concord, NH (February, 6) – Valentine’s Day may be fast approaching, but there is still time to shop for your special someone. Sending flowers or chocolates may sound like a quick fix, but what happens if your sweetie’s sweets never arrive? With complaints against florists doubling from 2010 to those filed in 2011, BBB offers the following tips to ensure your Valentine's Day gifts arrive without a hitch!

Before shopping for flowers, candy or gifts, find a company you can trust by researching BBB Business Reviews on bbb.org Keep in mind when considering complaint information that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints itself.

When ordering online or over the phone, make sure you receive a confirmation number or receipt sent in the mail or email to keep tabs on your gift throughout the delivery process. This will also serve as a proof-of-purchase if there are any problems with delivery. In addition, make sure you get a full description of your product or floral arrangement prior to placing your order.

Check with the retailer to see the estimated date of arrival. If you are sending a gift for Valentine’s Day, you want to make sure it arrives in time for the holiday. Better yet, see if the product is guaranteed to arrive by February 14th. If so, print a copy of the advertised guarantee and keep it for your records.

Lastly, BBB warns consumers to be wary of emails received from unknown senders. Unfortunately, fake e-cards and emails from scammers and hackers may actually contain malicious content that could compromise your computer’s safety and your secure information. To ensure your computer is not harmed, do not click on any links provided in these emails.
